I'll mostly be playing by myself. i was gonna get the full band kit, but maybe i should just get the guitar kit??

You can play guitar without knowing how to read notes. Tabs for acoustic guitar are graphs presenting the strings and showing where you should put your fingers. It is a lot easier and more instinctive. Most of the string instruments use tabs.
