Are Guitar Lessons Worth It?
Are Guitar Lessons Worth It?
So you want to learn guitar – great! Learning an instrument, especially one as versatile and challenging as guitar – is a very rewarding experience if you choose to stick with it. It’s certainly not easy to master the instrument, leading people to argue for years about the most efficient ways to learn guitar.
Some people argue that there is plenty of free content floating around that can help beginners to learn the instrument without professional instruction. The internet certainly does make it easy to access free, or at the very least inexpensive, content like online lessons, instructional DVDs and video courses, and guitar books.
Others believe that the best way to learn guitar is to have someone instruct you. An experienced guitar teacher is not only someone who is great at playing guitar, but they also have years of experience with transmitting their knowledge to students of all skill levels.
So what’s the best way to learn guitar? Are guitar lessons really worth it?
The truth of the matter is that everyone learns differently. Some respond well to content they can follow at their own pace, while others will learn more quickly when someone is showing them exactly what to do.
However, there is also no way to undervalue the lessons of guitar teachers. With the right teacher, just about every student of guitar can benefit, no matter how new or advanced you are! A guitar teacher can help you shatter through ruts and plateaus by offering a fresh perspective or a new source of motivation. They can give you instant feedback and answer any question you might have. And they’ll only help you improve whatever skills you need help with – the lesson plan will always be centered around YOU!
You’re not going to get this level of personalized instruction from a book or instructional DVD. If you have any questions, there’s nobody to ask! All you can do is rewind the tape or re-read the page and hope it clicks the second time around. But if you still can’t develop a full understanding of the concept, you’re forced to move on with incomplete knowledge that only weakens the foundation of your musical skills.
Guitar lessons certainly are worth it. Your best bet is to find a few guitar teachers that offer lessons in your area, and talk to them about their experience and their plan to help you achieve
1000
your goals. Take a few lessons with them and evaluate the effects its having on your performance. If after a few sessions you still feel like you’re not getting as much as you’d like, you can stop scheduling lessons and go back to self-teaching methods.
However, if you are getting value from your lessons, you can be sure that you’re learning guitar quickly and easily, concentrating only on the most important aspects of developing your skill set. Good luck and happy playing!
