Learn Simple Guitar Songs
If you are looking for some simple guitar songs to start your repertoire as a guitar player, I will try and point you in the right direction. You probably decided to learn to play the guitar so you could play the songs you like, and it is quite possible that you will be able to learn the basics of guitar playing using some of your favorites. But you need to start with simple guitar songs so that learning to strum the strings and change chords will not be too stressful.
So before you can play any songs at all you need to understand what learning to play the guitar involves. On your first day as the owner of a guitar you should be able to name the parts of the guitar, have some idea of how to change the guitar strings and know how to tune your guitar. If you do not know these things, you should do a web search for “parts of the guitar”, “how to tune guitar” and “online guitar tuner”. You should also find a tutorial on how to read guitar tabs.
To start your career as a guitar player, the first of your collection of simple guitar songs should be Horse With No Name by America. If you search for “Horse With No Name Tab” you will find a number of versions that feature between two and four very simple chords. If you do not know what the song sounds like you will find it on YouTube.
Silent Night would be a good candidate for your second simple guitar song. You can play it using the chords C, G and F which are all simple chords. The F chord will be your first barre chord. Barre chords are made when you place the first finger of your left hand across two or more strings. It takes a few weeks of steady practice to get these chords sounding cleanly but playing barre chords means getting the major hard work of learning guitar out of the way.
You could look at finding bands whose songs are usually quite simple to play. Greenday is one band that springs to mind. You could attempt Time Of Your Life even though it does make use of finger style guitar techniques.
Other simple guitar songs for you to learn are, For What It’s Worth by Buffalo Springfield, Mr. Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan, Take It Easy By The Eagles and Eight Days a Week by The Beatles. Another simple guitar song recorded by The Beatles is Twist and Shout which was also recorded by many other artists.
